Spiritual Sickness

THE BIG IDEA

This week carried in the new moon of Nissan, the moon that marks the start of spiritual time for the descendants of Israel, and a liberating force so powerful we are still telling the story until this day.

Practically speaking, this moon signifies the time for (mandatory) spiritual spring cleaning - fifteen days to physically, emotionally, and psychically clean out and bread from your home, heart and mind… but mostly your home.

Take full advantage of this practice. Get rid of old food, old clothes, old thoughts, and old energy. Let the removal of each crumb signify the clearing away any resistance to believing that there is only one redemptive force in the universe, and that creative force has always been and always will be responsible for the fate of the Jewish people, Israel and the world.

This week’s Torah energy invites us to clean one layer deeper, focusing our attention on a time when all sickness was understood to be a form of spiritual sickness.

In order to win this war and merit complete redemption from harm — we will all need to clean away our puffed up personal egos (signified by the leavened bread) and align our soul core with our spiritual mission of absolute faith and surrender.

MAKING SPACE

Between cleaning your kitchen and preparing for the holiday, take time to make a list of all the ‘loops’ ‘ruminating thoughts’ and ‘self defeating patterns’ you can identify in your life.

Write down a list and keep adding to it each day.

Be ready to burn that list along with all the “chametz” (bread) you clear from your home.

Make space for fresh, healthy consciousness with each bite of matzah.
